Candy Melts ( Buy from US | UK )
Caramel Topping ( Buy from US | UK )
Food Dye ( Buy from US | UK )

Step 1: get thee brain moulds from amazon ( Buy from US | UK )
Step 1: get thee brain moulds

Step 2: Candy Melts ( Buy from US | UK ) often found at craft stores
Step 2: find candy melts

Step 3: melt 1-2 lighter colour melts (this is pink + white)
Step 3: melt 1-2 lighter colour melts (this is pink + white)

Step 4: smish some of the lighter colour into the brain mould crevices.
This step makes the brain look more realistic. If you skip this, your little brain will look more like a walnut or poo instead of a brain. Don’t go crazy filling. This is just a THIN highlight. The rest of the mould will be filled with darker colour.
Step 4: smish some of the lighter colour into the brain mould crevices

Step 5: melt (this was colour ratio test)
I ended up using these amounts to fill the 9 cavity mould: 20 pink, 12 blue, 4 brown. I recommend experimenting with small amounts first to test/find the right colour (gray and unappealing)
Step 5: melt (this was colour ratio test)

Step 6: fill moulds
I kind of spoon it in. Don’t over fill because you’ll get messy edges. Fill to just under the top edge of the cavity
Step 6: fill moulds

Step 6b: TAP the mould on the counter to remove bubbles
even if you tap your mould, you’ll probably end up with one or two brains in each batch with a bubble on the surface, but still taptaptaptap away to remove all the bubbles you can.
Step 6: TAP the mould on the counter to remove bubbles

Step 7: refridgerate about an hour, pop out of mould
Step 7: refrigerate about an hour, pop out of mould

Caramel blood
Caramel Topping ( Buy from US | UK ) – often found in ice cream section any kind will do, but I advise looking for a one with a slight opacity. I use two colours of food dye to colour the caramel. The two colours are “Red” and “Burgundy”
Caramel blood

this is about 1/3 cup of the caramel topping (you don’t need much for a dozen cupcakes)

I added about 1/2 teaspoon of “red red” and added a tiny bit of the burgundy to darken it to the right shade. Use your judgment on the amount of burgundy you wish to add. Some like a bright red, but I like a darker colour.

    what size cupcake are those?

  • Kitty

I was hoping they were smaller – trying to see what size the brains were and that gives a good idea. Thanks

    • If you have like a bite size cupcake shapes you can bake it in them and add the brains on top cause the brains should be ice cube size.

Also you can share your pictures once done 🙂
